Drakefire Chasm v1.1 Released

It's here -- Drakefire Chasm v1.1. And it's more difficult than ever before! No, seriously; the earlier versions had couple bugs that made the game too easy and actually possible to win. I even beat it myself couple times. And now it's all fixed.

But don't worry; the increased difficulty has been compensated by buffing many of the abilities that felt underpowered. I'm not sure if enough -- victory yet eludes my grasp. However, with the correct set of abilities and some luck, I very much believe even the final confrontation can be survived. It is hard as nails, though.

In addition to the balance tweaking, there are quite a few other tweaks and additions that should smoothen the gameplay. A few minor bugs still persist but they are just that, minor, and should not crash the game or anything.

I will of course try to fix any major bug if such a thing should surface. I was also thinking adding maybe two other playable dragon colors with slightly different set of abilities. Thus, v1.2 might be released at some point.

The game's available at the download page:

It's again only for Windows but people have been playing the previous releases in Wine and I doubt I added anything which would prevent it working now. Though fullscreen is evidently a no go unless you are using Necklace of the Eye. I don't know how that one works; does one just throw DfC into it and you get all the cool things or what. So don't ask me about it.

The lengthy changelog is bit too lengthy to be included here but it comes with the zip as always. Also, let me know if you manage to win.

  1. Just beat it.

I don't know whether this is intentional, but level generation doesn't always create enough enemies of a meat category to upgrade that stat. I think this could stand to be less random, since you're already only choosing one stat gain out of four per level.

Also, line breath seems much, much better than the other types- I'm not sure I could win the game without it. It often one-shots 'cunning' enemies in addition to 'agile' ones.

This is a really cool game. It's awesome to be a dragon and eat everything. Oh, and the different dragon types sound wicked sweet.
